The Story of Sir Timothy, my first completed work of fiction

The Story of Sir Timothy
By
Justin L. Dew

It was a beautiful day in the Kingdom of Emariss.

The Knights of the Cross, had just added a brave, humble, knight named Timothy to their ranks.

A few months passed and The Knights-save Timothy, who had the most unpleasant task of cleaning the horse’s stalls- were out defending the borders from their newest enemies, a horrible, ruthless and not to mention smelly, band of brigands.

The Princess was enjoying an afternoon tea in the garden with her usual assortment of Maids and Nannies when a mighty dragon swooped down with a roar and a flash of scales, picked up the terrified princess and carried her off to his lair.

The King called the only knight in the castle to his chambers, that knight was Sir Timothy, who knelt with respect and awe of his King.

“Sir Timothy.” The distressed king said, “you are my only hope, my daughter’s fate rests in your hands.
Take this sword, go to the stable and take my mount. Ride to the dragon’s cave on the far side of the Kingdom and rescue my daughter.” He said, handing Sir Timothy a long sword that had a silver pommel, hilt and blade.

Timothy took the blade, sheathed it, rose to his feet and ran to the stable where a white stallion was being dressed with a bit, saddle, and reigns. The horse, a magnificent pure white stallion was then loaded with provisions and light armor for Sir Timothy.

The brave Knight mounted the horse, who’s name was Wind Runner, and took off with out a second’s delay.

He traveled for many days, through green, lush forests, across treacherous snowy mountains and roaring rivers to find the dragon’s cave, a nest hidden in the middle of a dark forest.

Donning his armor, a shirt of silver mail, white leggings and a black tunic and a silver helm with a cross emblazoned on it. He ran into the dragon’s clearing and was greeted by a deafening roar.

“Who dares traipse into the clearing of the great Cameron?” a gruff sandpaper voice said behind him.

Drawing his sword with a swish of steel on steel he turned to face the terrifying and massive chestnut brown dragon.

“I am Sir Timothy, a knight of Emariss and the protector of King Jonathon’s daughter, the fine lady you have kidnapped.

Cameron became more peaceful after that, if that could happen with a dragon.

“Why are you here?” Cameron asked just as the princess was waking up from a restful slumber.

“Because you have kidnapped Princess Katherine.” Timothy said, repeating what he said earlier.

“Sir Timothy, he didn’t kidnap me.” the Princess said with a very unladylike yawn.

“I am trying out for the role of Princess Protector.” Cameron said.

“The King had a sign posted in every village square in the Kingdom. I heard about the job offer and it sounded good. Dental, Medical and a week’s paid vacation each year, what more could I ask for?”

Timothy blinked, that was an excellent deal.

“Well, let’s go back to the king and tell him, although next you go job hunting I suggest you send your resume instead of Kidnapping your possible imployer's daughter.” Sir Timothy said with a smile and sheathed his sword.

“Ok, we can fly there if you want.” Cameron replied.
Timothy nodded and Cameron kneeled down so Sir Timothy and Princess Katherine could get up on his back.

Then he picked up Wind Runner (who fainted when he was picked up.) and took off for the castle.

They landed in a day. The King was there to capture the dragon with a company of Knights, they had returned a day earlier from their victory against the brigands.

Timothy jumped off Cameron and ran toward King Jonathon and shouted.

“Your Majesty, don’t hurt the dragon! He is only trying out for the job you have posted in the village squares!”

King Jonathon raised an eyebrow quizzically and ordered the Knights to stop.

“The Job of princess protector?” He glared at Cameron.

“Let’s see, big, fangs, scary looking. You'll do.
You do realize we need a feast, right?" The King said.
"Yeah, my favorite past time!" Cameron roared gleefully.

A month later.
The whole kingdom was dressed in their finest clothing.

Sir Timothy was dressed as he had the day he first met Cameron and rescued the princess.

King Jonathon was dressed in a white tunic; a brown over garment with a cross on it a jeweled gold crown, a rich red cape and wore his ceremonial sword, a beautiful sword with a hilt of gold.
Around his neck was a golden amulet.

Princess Katherine was dressed in pale blue gown laced with gold. The was a crown of purple flowers in her blond hair.

What a ceremony they had. Of course in Emariss, every ceremony had a feast and festival and it was one to be remembered.

Jesters, fire eaters, every kind of food and drink you could imagine was there in infinite supply. At the end of the feast the ceremony was held on a grassy field at the lake across from the castle.

Sir Timothy and Cameron assembled in front of the King and bowed.

“Sir Timothy and Cameron Dragon, you have proved yourselves worthy of the honor of being the Protectors if this kingdom’s greatest treasure, the Princess.”

He touched Sir Timothy’s shoulders and head with the flat of his blade and did the same to Cameron’s snout.

“I pronounce thee the protectors of the Princess.” He said and the crowd burst into applause.
